Seriously, what’s the meaning of this?

So, I’m a pastor and this here church needs a blog.

Most people reading this probably know me personally (because who else would be reading one of the very first posts on a new blog), even if we have only passed as ethereal internet vapors. And so you know that I already had a blog. It had a very serious name. Calvinist. Historical. Latin. But I’m afraid I had to let blogging go over this past year, as I’ve been finishing up my dissertation. Technically, it still isn’t quite finished. But it’s awful close, and it is far enough along that I feel comfortable getting this new blog going. Besides, I am serving as a pastor right now, and as we all know hip pastors have to have blogs. So now it’s kind of a “work” thing for me to have a blog. So, it’s time to get back into the blogging scene.

But I intend to keep things fun. I will write about serious, theological-liturgical-pastoral sorts of things, but I’ll also write about whatever other stuff I want to write about. I used to have this thing about trying to “control” my online persona , especially if I was writing serious or intellectual stuff. I’ve now decided that that was a mistake. I am a pretty silly guy, really. I can be serious when serious is what is needed, but I’m going to let them both come through here. I will write about important things and I will write about trivial things. I love college football, for instance. You’ll definitely see some of that.

But then when it’s time to defend myself against the claim that I am a heretic, well yeah, I’ll do that, too.

Blog Launch Party

Any words I could use to accurately tell you about the vision I have for this blog, and about the personality of the crazy person who is going to be writing the posts, would constitute a complete waste of both time and space. For this picture says it all.

Blogging is serious business, people.

Get serious, I'm about to blog.

Let’s blog, people.
